Why Food Can Change Your Focus
When focus drops between meals, it is not always a character flaw. Your brain is a living organ, and it needs raw materials.
The Science
- Fernstrom (2005), The Journal of Nutrition: amino acids from protein are the precursors the brain uses to build neurotransmitters.
- Tyrosine is the precursor for dopamine and tryptophan for serotonin, so raw materials matter.
- It does not mean protein instantly fixes mood; the brain simply cannot build signals from nothing.
- If a meal is mostly sugar and air, the system may feel uneven later.
The Protocol
- Build a steadier plate: add a protein you can actually eat.
- Eggs, yogurt, beans, nuts, tofu, fish, or meat all work.
- Pair it with fiber, water, and enough total food.
- Watch the practical test: does energy feel steadier two hours later? If not, do not shame yourself.
