Soreness Is Not the Scoreboard
Being sore after training can feel like proof, but it is not the scoreboard.
The Science
- Muscle grows from progressive challenge, good technique, enough recovery, and repeated signals over time.
- Soreness is a poor metric for whether training worked.
- Recovery is not laziness; it is when tissues adapt to the signal you gave them.
The Protocol
- Track one variable at a time: load, repetitions, range, sleep, or how it felt.
- Stop chasing soreness as proof.
- Change the movement or load if sharp pain shows up.
