The Double Inhale Calms the Alarm
When stress rises, breathing is one handle your nervous system lets you grab directly.
The Science
- Breathing is a direct, voluntary handle on your autonomic state.
- A double inhale, one deep breath then a small top-up, reopens little air sacs that collapse under tension.
- A long, slow exhale helps offload carbon dioxide and shifts the body toward calm.
The Protocol
- Take one deep inhale, add a small second inhale, then a long full exhale.
- Use one to three rounds before a tense text, test, performance, or conversation.
- Keep it gentle; forcing extra rounds can become another stressor.
