Name the Feeling Before It Runs You
Bad is often too blurry to be useful. When the label is vague, the brain has to guess what kind of bad this is. Emotion is not a single hidden switch waiting to be found.
The Science
- There is no single emotion switch in the brain.
- Emotion is constructed from body regulation, context, past instances, and meaning.
- More precise emotion words can support better action by improving the internal map.
The Protocol
- Replace one blurry label with two or three more specific possibilities.
- Check body state, context, and recent history before reacting.
- Pick an action that fits the specific state instead of the broad label.
