Why Cravings Arrive Early
A craving can start before the food is in front of you. Often it starts when the body predicts food is coming. Hunger hormones can rise before your usual meal time.
The Science
- The hypothalamus runs the body's hunger and satiety control.
- Ghrelin from the gut can rise around learned meal times and increase the desire to eat.
- Sugar sensing in the gut can drive dopamine linked signals that encourage more sugar seeking.
The Protocol
- Shift a learned snack cue gradually instead of all at once.
- Put fiber rich food before the sweet item when you can.
- Watch timing, place, smell, and routine as craving cues.
